X-Men: Apocalypse is the third installment of the X-Men Prequel trilogy and the ninth installment in the X-Men Cinematic universe. Directed by Bryan Singer starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn, Evan Peters, Lucas Till, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, and Ben Hardy as they try to stop En Sabah Nur, the first and most powerful mutant awakens after thousands of years. He is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Mystique, with the help of Professor X, must lead the X-Men to save all of humanity from the all powerful mutant God.
Just when you thought the X-Men movies couldn’t get better after Days of Future Past, man I was wrong. X-Men: Apocalypse was everything I wanted in a finale of a trilogy. From a great villain to hints of future installments, I was in the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I was super impressed with most of the cast. From original cast members like Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy, whom have fantastic chemistry together as Magneto and Professor X. Quicksliver is such an amazing character in this universe. He is so funny and witty, with a lot of heart. His scene in this movie tops his scene in Days of Future Past by like 100%. The visual effects are outstanding especially when it came down to his scene. It was truly amazing. We also have newcomers to the X-Men Universe like Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler) and Alexandra Shipp (Storm) whom all have such amazing parts in this movie. I am so excited to see how these characters will develop in future installments. Even Hugh Jackman’s wolverine cameo was spot on, giving us a glimpse of what’s to come with him for his last wolverine movie. Oscar Isaac is a scary man when he plays Apocalypse. The character looks so much better in the movie than how he looked in the trailers. Isaac played the mutant God so well, some of the lines he spoke gave me goosebumps. I felt like he was a legit threat to the X-Men but the third act made him look so weak.
But there is some negatives in this film that stop it from being a perfect comic book movie. First of all, Jennifer Lawrence is the weakest x-men in this movie, character and acting wise. She was the equivalent to watching paint dry. She was so boring and you can tell she just mailed it in for that Fox Studios check. Next up is Olivia Munn as Psylocke. You give one of the coolest and popular X-Men barely any lines, luckily her action scenes with Beast was great and that’s about it with Psylocke in the movie. Most of the four horsemen have some very vague reasons to join Apocalypse besides Magneto that I can’t get into because spoilers.
Overall, this is one of the best conclusions to a comic book trilogy ever. Each X-Men movie gradually gets better with every installment and I am super excited for the future films. I can’t wait to see what story lines they will do with the younger cast. Catch it on Blu-Ray or Digital HD today. SuperSam Rating: A.
